Death: In a better place? Alive with Yahshua? What do the Scriptures say?

Yahweh has given me topic after topic to study about this past year, year and a half and while it truly is exciting, it sure can make a gal's head spin, in a good way of course. =)
But the Holy Ghost continues to give me wisdom and guidance and the more I study the more I better understand.
It is a common thing amongst the Christian world that when a loved one dies they are "in a better place" or "they are dancing on the streets of Glory" or "they are with J-SUS".
It gives us as humans a level of comfort to believe that.
But that's not what the Word of G-D has to say on the matter.
Before you get mad at me and think of me as some horrible insensitive person, take your Bible and read along with me.

1Th 4:13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

1Th 4:14
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Act 7:60
And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
I Corinthians 15:6
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
I Corinthians 15:18
Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
I Corinthians 15:51
Behold, I shew you a mystery, we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.
I Corinthians 11:30
For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
II Peter 3:4
And saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
Acts 13:36
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of G-D, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers and saw corruption.
So...you all still following?
According to the Greek text, these words of sleep and asleep work interchangeably.
You can find the actual meaning of these words in Strongs # 2837. It states 'to put to sleep, to slumber, to decease, sleep, be dead.
Nowhere does it say that when we die we either go to Heaven or hell. Do you know where we got that idea from? Paganism. If you don't believe me..go ahead and do a Google search.
How this theory creeped into our church world, I don't know, but then again, lots of paganism has infiltrated our churches, but people seem not to care.
It's also been said many times 'oh grandma is looking down on us right now' or some other words of comfort.
Now take your Bibles and please follow along with me in the following verses...

Psalm 6: 5 'For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?'

Psalm 115: 17 'The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.'

Psalms 146: 4 'His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.'

Ecc. 9: 5-6 "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun."
Ecc. 9:10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. "
When we are dead, we're dead...done..no longer in existence...
until...
the coming of Yahshua, when we will stand before an Almighty G-D and the books will be open as we give an account of our life.
Till then, we are asleep. We don't go automatically to Heaven or hell. We aren't reincarnated. We aren't sent to Purgatory or Limbo, outer space or some black hole somewhere.
As I wrap this up...here are 3 more verses to ponder on...

Job 14:12
"So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep."

Daniel 12:2
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Deuteronomy 31:16
And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
Now, I may have ruffled some feathers and that's okay because how else are we to learn and grow in our walk with Yah?
I don't claim to be a know it all. I am simply sharing what He has shown me and wanted to share it with you all so you can see how deceived we all have been in our churches.
There are churches though that indeed do preach that we are asleep till Yahshua's return and that is a blessing because they are preaching truth.
The church I got saved in was one of those 'oh he's in a better place, he's with G-D now' and I didn't know any better as my eyes weren't opened back then as I was a new babe in Him.
I am open to comments, but please be civil and act like adults. No mud slinging, no temper tantrums, no finger pointing.
This blog is to edify Yahweh and His Word, not tear people down.
Love you in the Messiah <3

P.S. I thought Yah was done but I came acorss this verse...
John 3:13 And no one has gone up into Heaven, except He having come down out of Heaven, the Son of Man who is from Heaven.
Well, we can't explain away that verse, now can we? =)
Also, remember, when Yahshua died, He didn't immediately go to Heaven. You know...the whole 3 days, 3 nights thing.... =)
Okay, now I am done. =)

Yes I grew up with that notion, as well (that when you're dead, you're dead until the Lord's return)

We learned that Luke 23:43 can be read two ways, depending on the comma:
1)Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in Paradise."
or
2)Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth today, you will be with me in Paradise."

Thought provoking!

Yeah, what's up with the whole comma thing?
A mistake from the translators I guess...
Of course that mistake on their behalf has caused much confusion and division amongst Christians for centuries. =(

The comma does not exist in the Latin scripts, so that is why the confusion! It was a judgment call I guess.

I remember posting my beliefs on death in one of your posts last year (those beliefs being the same as what you have stated in this post) and I think I gave a few people a stroke because they were adamant that verse said the theif was in paradise that very day. But we cannot hold to one verse at the exclusion of the others. They are all true, but our understanding can be very flawed.

To be dead is like being with the L-rd because the dead do not know what is going on around them, so they go to 'sleep' and the next thing they know will be His Day!!! Here's a new zinger for you- the sleep of the dead is like the sleep of our souls before we are born. He says He knew us from the beginning, and yet we don't remember that time period. Our souls were not awake until we were conceived.

Sorry to anyone who is unseated by that thought. I'm really NOT trying to kill your readers. ;)

I grew up with the teaching that the dead are at rest until they are raised at His will in his timing. Therefore I can see that someone who has gone is in a better place and an unknowing one that is more peaceful etc than our current existance and why some would say such things. I have also puzzled over the Luke verse too. However I figure that this is when I let God look after things after He is in control. After all our existence is just a small fraction in comparison to eternity and whether we rest 10 000 years or not all is immaterial in the end.

Thank you for sharing all these verses...the Lord opened my eyes to this a couple years ago, but I have not had time to go into an in depth study about it. This was wonderful :)

Dawn - Amen to your post. This is one of the best posts I've ever seen regarding what happens when we die.

motherofmany - Soul sleep? What a thought! Do you have any texts to support that? I'll have to ponder that idea for awhile...

I love your ability to dig deeper and enjoy God's Word, whether what you come away with may be popular or not. I am sorry I don't post often, I stay out of it a bit, lol ;o) Love your posts, keep it up!
