Since it is Shabbat, what a wonderful day to do a post on it, I thought.

I have been trying for months, actually probably about a year to get a post like this going but I always put it off because I knew the studying, research, & notetaking was going to make my
head explode...hee hee.

I am sharing with you all what Yahweh has shown me. I would hope you would follow along in your own Bibles with me.

*
I am not going to use websites, books, magazines. I will use the Word of GOD, a dictionary, the Strong's Concordance and 1 article (trust me it's very hard for me to explain what I need to explain without the help of something, you will see what I mean when you get to it).

*
I am sure we all have heard that Sabbath was "only for the Jews", or "it was nailed to the Cross", or "it was abolished", or "Yahshua's resurrection changed the day", but my friends, we have been lied to. You will see how if you choose to follow along (which I hope you do).
Sabbath isn't really that hard to understand at all and I am going to share that with you.

I would also like to say, the Bible is 1 book. It's not 2. It's not Old Testament vs. New Testment. The same GOD of the Old Testament is still the same GOD of the New Testament.

Old Testament

We'll start in the beginning and work our way to the end.

Genesis 2:1-3 -- Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day GOD ended his work He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
And GOD blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all His work which GOD created and made.

What do we see here?

*
* The 7th day, YHWH ended His work & rested.
* He blessed & sanctified the 7th day.

Noah Webster's dictionary defines the word blessed as: Happy, enjoying spiritual happiness and the favor of GOD; enjoying heavenly felicity.

Noah Webster's dictionary defines the word sanctified as: Made holy ; consecrated; set apart for sacred services

* The 7th day was created even before Adam was formed. Genesis 2:7 shows us that proof. =)

* As you can see, this day wasn't set apart for just the Jewish or Israelite people as we have commonly been told time and time again.

* Take a look at any calander, can you tell me what day the 7th day is? Is it Saturday or Sunday?

Exodus 16:22-29 -- And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rules of the congregation came and told Moses.
And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe, and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.
And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.
And the LORD said unto Moses , How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore He giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
So the people rested on the seventh day.

* Moses' people crack me up. YHWH tells them one thing and they go and do the exact opposite not expecting any consequences...sounds kind of like us, eh? =)

* This was written before the 10 Commandments were set in stone. The 10 Commandments didn't come into play till Exodus 20.

* They were to gather twice as much food on the sixth day in order to prepare for Sabbath.

*
* We see YHWH getting upset that Moses and his people were not keeping His commandments and laws.

*
* I highlighted what I did because I wanted you to see that it is YHWH who has given the Sabbath, not Moses. It is a Sabbath unto the LORD.
Remember it was YHWH who blessed & sanctified the seventh day.

Exodus 20: 8-11 -- Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy GOD: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.

* The seventh day is the Sabbath and it belongs to the LORD thy GOD, not to man.

* We are not to work, neither our families, animals or any stranger (visitors) that may come into your home.

* We see again in the last verse, how it goes back to Genesis -- For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exodus 31: 12-18 -- And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among the people.
Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth. and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed.
And He gave unto Moses, when He had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of GOD.

* The Sabbath is to be kept as it is a sign between the children of Israel and their generations and YHWH. Have you ever studied how the generations extend? It doesn't just stop in the book of Exodus.

* We see that the Sabbath is holy.

*
* YHWH was not joking around about Sabbath, You do any work, you will be cut off. You defile His holy day, you will be put to death.

*
* He tells us we are to work 6 days, but the 7th is the sabbath day of rest and it is HOLY to the LORD.

*
* The Sabbath is to be refreshing for us. It's not a burden at all.

*
* It was written with the finger of GOD, not the finger of Moses. GOD finally set His holy day in writing. Woohoooo!

Exodus 35:1-3 -- And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words, which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them.
Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD; whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.
Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.

* Many people use this verse to do away with the Sabbath because how can we not eat or how can we not stay warm on a cold day, and their mind runs off, thus they believe it is not for us today because it's impossible.
They fail to remember that Sabbath is only from one sunset to another, that's it. 1 day. That's all YHWH asks of you to keep.

*

Strong's # 1197 tells us a bit more on the word kindle:
kindle (ba'ar) to consume (by fire or by eating), also be brutish, bring (put, take) away, burn (cause to) eat (up), feed, heat, kindle, set (on fire), waste.

*

He doesn't want you to run around and cook, bake, broil, roast, He wants you to REST on His Holy Sabbath day. He wants you to worship Him, He wants you to enjoy your family.

*

Is it such a sacrifice to have sandwiches, chips, and a pickle for supper Friday evening when Sabbath begins? You can go back to cooking on Saturday after Sabbath ends.
Actually you don't even have to eat sandwiches and chips Friday night. Eat your supper before Sabbath begins. Get your dishes done before Sabbath begins.
It's simple.

Is it such a sacrifice to have cereal or granola bars, doughnuts, or whatever else is out there, for breakfast on Saturday morning instead of making a grand breakfast? It's only for 1 morning.

*

You can make snacks ahead of time for your family to nosh on throughout the day and then when Sabbath ends at sunset you can resume your normal cooking duties.

*

It's really that easy. It's man who has made YHWH's day overly thought out and complex.

*

What about heat? Most of us use electric heat in the winter. What about it? Some say that is kindling a fire. Remember they didn't have electricity in the Bible days. They had to make their own fires for warmth and heating / cooking food.

*

If you use a wood stove or fireplace make sure the fire is going before Shabbat begins. There is nothing wrong with feeding the fire throughout the day on Sabbath because you already had the fire going before Shabbat began.

Numbers 15:32-36 -- And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
And they that found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses, and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
And the LORD said unto Moses, the man shall surely be put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
And all the congregation brought him without the camp and stoned him with stones, and he died, as the LORD commanded Moses.

* YHWH was serious about His people observing His holy day, but the people didn't listen
No, we won't get stoned in our day and age, but that doesn't mean we just do our own thing and disobey YHWH and His Word..

*

* After the stoning, take a look at verses 39-40...
And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring.
That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your GOD.

* Remember all the commandments of the LORD (not just 9) and do them. Obey them.

*

* Twice it is mentioned to Remember and do the Commandments.

*

* Be holy unto your GOD.

Deuteronomy 5: 12-15 -- Keep the Sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy GOD hath commanded thee.
Six days thou shalt labour and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy GOD: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
And remember thou was a servant in the land of Egypt, and that they LORD thy GOD brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy GOD commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day.

* This is pretty much self explanatory, wouldn't you say, it's pretty much the same thing YHWH has been saying over and over again, probably trying to get it ingrained into some thick headed noggins. =)

Nehemiah 13:15-22 --

In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day; and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.
There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brough fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?
Did not your fathers thus, and did not our GOD bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.
And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.
Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you.
From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O , my GOD, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.

* The Sabbath was being desecrated and Nehemiah was going to have none of that! Hee hee...go Nehemiah!!! You show them! =) He took the Sabbath very seriously.

Psalm 92 -- Did you know it's a song / Psalm for the sabbath day. Take a look in your own Bibles and it should have a footnote or reference there letting you know.
So, see, now when you have Shabbat and don't know what to sing, here's your answer. =)

Isaiah 56:2-6 -- Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keeping his hand from doing any evil.
Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from His people: neither let the eunuchs say, Behold, I am a dry tree.
For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant;
Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be His servants, every one that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant.

* We as YHWH's children will be blessed in keeping His holy, set apart day and not polluting it (doing our own thing when we should be doing what YHWH wants us to do).

Isaiah 58:13-14 -- If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shall honour Him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

* Friends, YHWH is telling us that if we stop doing our own thing on the Sabbath and realize it's a delight and not a burden to keep, look how the LORD will raise us up? Look!

*

* And in case you missed it, it comes directly from the mouth of the LORD.

Isaiah 66:22-23 -- For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and name remain.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before, saith the LORD.

* It's so clear.. we will be keeping the Sabbath in Heaven. Sabbath, not Sunday.
* This is coming straight from the mouth of YHWH.
* All flesh means everybody!

Moving on...

Jeremiah 17:20-27 -- And say unto them, hear ye the WORD of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the Sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.
But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receieve instruction.
And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;
Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain forever.
And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnet offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.
But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem and it shall not be quenched.

* We are not to do any work, but hallow the 7th day, just like YHWH commanded those back in Moses' day.

*

* But we see how Judah is stiff necked, not listening to instruction, you know, doing their own thing and YHWH tells them if they will not hearken unto Him and obey His holy day, He is going to devour their palaces with fire.
YHWH is not kidding. Remember when He commanded a man be stoned for picking up sticks on Sabbath?
YHWH will do what ever it takes to get His children to LISTEN and obey Him.

Ezekiel 20: 8-24 -- But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.
Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.
Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands;
Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.
Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.
But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:
I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;
And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.
Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.
I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries;
Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

* Do you know what this is about? It's about rebellion, disobedience, and stubborness to Elohim.

*

* Again the Sabbath days were being polluted and desecrated.

*

*YHWH's wrath shows in these verses.

*

* Time and time again in the Old Testament we see YHWH say 'obey me and my commandments' and the people say 'no'. Then we see YHWH's anger at them for disobeying Him.
Do you think Yahweh is angry at us? He tells us to Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy, yet we keep Sunday, go out to eat, buy and sell, and do the exact opposite of keeping His holy, set apart, sanctified day.

Ezekiel 22:8, Ezekiel 22:26, & Ezekiel 23:38 -- I am not going to type out these verses. I would like for you too look them up your self. It talks about how the sabbath has been profaned / desecrated.

* Poor Yahweh, I wish I could give Him a big hug and tell Him how sorry I am His people do not obey His commandments.

Now there are a few
other verses of Sabbath Scripture I didn't include. They mostly deal with sabbath and the feasts and new moons. Not saying those are not important, you may always check them out yourself, I am just trying to to a "basic" Sabbath study with you all. =)

New Testament

I am going to do this a little differently instead of going in order like I did with the Old Testament. The OT was a lot easier for me to do. =)

*

We will start off this way:

Yahshua and His disciples kept Sabbath.

* Mark 1:21 -- And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagouge, and taught.

* Mark 6:2 -- And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagouge; and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even such mighty works are wrought by the hands?

* Luke 4:16-- And he came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and, as His custom was, he went into the synagouge on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

* Acts 13:14 -- But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagouge on the sabbath day and sat down.

* Acts 16:13 -- And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down and spake unto the women that which resorted thither.

* Acts 17:2 -- And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days, reasoned with them out of the Scriptures.

* Acts 18:4 -- And he reasoned in the synagouge every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

* If Yahshua was to annul the Sabbath command, He had the perfect opportunity when He stood up to read in the Luke 4:16. We find nowhere in Scripture of Him doing so.

* If the Apostles were to have abolished the Sabbath, they would have supported their decision with many Scriptures demonstrating their authority to make such changes, but we find none.

Many believe the Sabbath is just for the Jews and since we are Christian and not Jewish, we don't have to obey the Sabbath.

*

Friends, that is a LIE! Been circulating around the church world for centuries.

*

Yahshua claimed He was "LORD of the Sabbath" and that, "the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath".
This can be found in Mark 2:27-28.

*

Yahshua did not say 'The Sabbath was made only for the Jews'. It was made for man kind.

*

It does not say He is LORD of Sunday and that Sunday was made for man, not man for Sunday. Yes, He is LORD of every day and every day is His, but the Sabbath was a day set apart for the people of YHWH.

*

Any change to the Sabbath command must come from Yahshua. If that change had been made, can you imagine the uproar the Jews would have put up?

*

Yahshua said the Sabbath was made, then it had to have a Maker! Yahweh is the Creator! Just like Genesis 2 lets us know. =)

*

The Gentile believers kept Sabbath.

Acts 13:42-44 -- And when the Jews were gone out of the synagouge, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of GOD.
And the next Sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of GOD.

* Paul and Barnabas had a golden opportunity right then and there to tell the Gentiles "you do not need to keep the Sabbath on the 7th day, we can meet together on Sundays", but he didn't.

Now, onto the the common arguments that are very well known in the church world;
the Sabbath vs. 1st day of the week.

If you still have your Bibles, follow along with me.

I Corinthians 16:1-3 is a common argument that the early church kept Sunday.
Let's take a look see at what we have here.

Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as GOD hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
And when I come. whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.

* Do any of you see a church service going on?
Nope, sure don't.
*A collection for the believers in Jeresalem was taken though.
Famine had struck Judea, and the members in Corinth, Macedonia, and Achaia (Acts 11:28-30, Romans 15: 25,26) and Paul was raising a collection for them.
*Upon the 1st day of the week (Sunday), let every one of you (individually) lay by him (original Greek means 'at home) in store (in storage, a certain amount).
*By him in store was normally done by believers in their homes.
*Paul also said that there will be no gatherings when he comes.


* Do you see the Sabbath was changed to Sunday?
Nope, just Paul coming through to collect for a church in need.

Next common argument that is used can be found in Acts 20:7.
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. *

Breaking bread was an expression that simply meant 'eating a meal'. Don't take my word for it though, but check out Luke 24:30, Luke 24:35, Acts 27:35.

Paul had kept the Sabbath with the members of Troas. He continued speaking with the people well past midnight, into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Owing to the lateness, a young man fell asleep and fell out of the balcony to his death. Paul went over to the young man and raised him to life (Acts 20:9-10).
After this healing, Paul stayed with the members until daylight (Sunday morning), eating (breaking bread) and fellowshipping (vs. 11).
That Sunday morning, just after day break, Paul left Troas and walked 20 miles on Sunday, something he would not have done on the Sabbath because he knew he would be breaking it if he did.
Remember YHWH labels his days from evening to evening (Genesis 1:5). The 1st day (Sunday) of the week began right after after Sabbath ended.

Next common argument that is used can be found in Revelation 1:10.
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet.

*This is John's vision on Patmos. Before then, he had a vision of the second coming of Christ (vs. 7-8).
*John never mentions Sunday as being the LORD'S day in the book of Revelation at all.

*The Bible doesn't define the LORD'S day as being the first day of the week.
*The Bible does tell us that Yahshua tells us he is the "LORD" of the Sabbath, which is the 7th day of the week. (Luke 6:5).
*The context of John's vision had nothing to do with a particular day in the weekly cycle.
*It is an expression that references a time yet in the future called "the Day of the LORD" (Jeremiah 46:10, Acts 2:20, I Thessalonians 5:2, II Thessalonians 2:2).
*This phrase is not speaking of s single day, but rather end time events just preceeding the return of Yahshua the Messiah as King of Kings.

Notice also, that this day has something to do with a great voice, like a trumpet.
Look what Paul said about Jesus' return,
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God" (1 Thes 4:16).

Next common argument can be found in John 20:18,19 --
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that He had spoken these things unto her.
Then, the same day, at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came JESUS and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Ummm...they weren't gathered together for a church service on Sunday, they were fearful of the Jews. They were scared.
No mention of the Sabbath being changed to Sunday.

Those pretty much sum up the Sunday keeping arguments that are constantly rehashed.

Matthew 28:1 -- In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

"The Sabbath was nailed to the cross!' you might say. Well let's all take a look see to see if it was, shall we?

Colossians 2:14 -- Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.

*Many say the law, Sabbath, and pretty much anything to do with the Old Testament was nailed to the cross.
* The Sabbath was not and is not against us or contrary to us. If that's the case then it was against Yahshua as well.
* Remember it was Yahshua that was actually nailed to the tree, not some list of Commandments. He was made to be sin for us, for the entire world.
* Sin, was nailed to the tree, because the Messiah was nailed to the tree, having been made sin for us. He was the sacrificial lamb.

* Did you know the Greek word "ordinances" is not the normal word for "law," which is "nomos" in the Greek, but it is the word "dogma," which is Strong's 1278.

* Dogma is always used in reference to the ordinances of men, men's commandments.
It is used in reference to Caesar's decrees in Luke 2:1 and Acts 17:7 and the apostolic decrees in Acts 16:4, which came from the ruling of the apostles in Acts 15.

*Paul shows us the dogmas coming out of these philosophies as: worship of angels, touch not, taste not, handle not, voluntary humility, neglect of the body and will worship.
And so then he specifically identifies these things, these dogmas as commandments of men in verse 21, even calling them dogmatizo in verse 20, which is the word translated "ordinances of men."

Take a quick look over at Hebrews 4:9-11 -- There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of GOD. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as GOD did from His. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Since it mentioned Strongs # 4521, I will share with you what it says - sabbaton; the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath) or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance and institution itself); the interval between two Sabbaths.

As we have seen in the verses I quoted you, yes, Yahshua was resurrected. That didn't change any day of worship.

Have you really studied it or are you just relying on how we have been brought up in church all our lives? It sure has been pounded in our heads that JESUS rose on Sunday, that's why we worship on that day.

No human witnessed Christ’s resurrection. The only record
we have of it is the one contained in the Bible. Thus, the
answer to when Christ was resurrected must come from
inspired scripture, otherwise we are simply speculating. A
close look at Jonah’s internment in the belly of the great fish
should give us the answer.

Most would agree that the three days and three nights Jonah
spent in the fish’s belly constitute a period of seventy-two
hours. The day-time period is generally understood to mean
a twelve hour period of light, as confirmed by Christ in
John 11:9-10:
Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If
anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees
the light of this world. 10 But if one walks in the night, he
stumbles, because the light is not in him.” NKJV

If we accept that Christ was working from the principle of
a day being twelve hours, and a night being twelve hours,
then three days and three nights constitute a seventy-two
hour period.

If one needs to find further evidence to this point, the
account of Genesis 1:4-13 provides it. Here we see again,
that God divided the day into two halves:
“[God] divided the light from darkness. And God called the
light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening
[darkness] and the morning [light] were the first day ....And the
evening [darkness] and the morning [light] were the second day
.... And the evening [now three periods of darkness called night--
three nights] and the morning [now three periods of light called
day -- three days] were the third day” (Gen. 1:4-13)

From this, one can see that three full days are equal to
three night (darkness) periods and three (light) periods,
constituting a full seventy-two hours.

It may seem a bit trivial to spend so much time defining
a day and a night; nevertheless, proponents of an Easter
resurrection have based the accuracy of their timeline on
numerous and “innovative” ways of counting. The truth is,
the three days and three nights Christ gave as evidence of
His Messiahship are exactly what any rational person would
believe them to be, a period of seventy-two hours.

Since Christ was to be in the grave for seventy-two hours,
it becomes immediately apparent that the Good Friday to
Easter Sunday timeline celebrated by most Christians today
is flawed.

If Christ was killed in the afternoon of “Good
Friday” as most Christians believe, there is no way he could
have risen on the morning of Easter Sunday. It is impossible
to squeeze seventy-two hours into that scenario when it was
stated as:
“And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must
suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the
chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and AFTER three
days rise again.” (Mark 8:16)

Any way you count it, Sunday morning cannot be three full
days from Friday afternoon, unless you want to redefine
a day and a night as “parts of three days and three nights”,
which does not square at all with Christ’s clear teaching.

However, this is the explanation and justification for
celebrating Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday morning
given by most theologians today.

In order to get this whole matter straightened out, it is
perhaps best to begin first by determining when Christ was
crucified.

Scripture tells us that the crucifixion took place
on the day referred to as “the preparation” day. According to
Jewish practice this was the day preceding a “Sabbath”

(Matt. 27:62; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:54). The Bible tells us
that a day is counted from evening to evening (Lev. 23:32,
Genesis 1:19), not from midnight to midnight as is
common today.

The Bible tells us that Jesus cried out from the stake soon
after “the ninth hour”. This would be three o’clock in the
afternoon by modern reference. Christ was crucified on
the “preparation day” before the ensuing High Sabbath
that began the festival of Unleavened Bread (Matt. 27:46-
50; Mark 15:34-37; Luke 23:44-46), which immediately
followed the day of the Passover.

By Jewish tradition, all
criminals had to be taken down from the stake before the
festival began, before the sun set signaling the High Day
had begun (Matt. 27:57; Luke 23:52-54; John 19:42). We
read in the book of John: “There laid they Jesus, therefore,
because of the Jews’ preparation day for the sepulcher was
nigh at hand”.

According to the laws observed by the Jews,
all dead bodies had to be buried before the beginning of a
Sabbath or festival High Day. Hence Jesus was buried before
sunset on the same day He died.

It is clear that Christ’s body
was buried in the late afternoon sometime between 3 p.m.
and sunset on the preparation day preceding the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, as these scriptures clearly indicate.


Many who know very little about “Judaism” are confused
by the reference to a “preparation day”, believing it refers
only to Friday when Jews traditionally prepare for the weekly
Sabbath observance. Lacking knowledge of the Passover
Feast of Unleavened Bread festival period, they do not make
distinction between the “preparation day” of the weekly
Sabbath and the preparation day, which precedes a Holy
Day or a High Sabbath.

It is important to understand the
Bible makes reference to two types of Sabbaths. The first
is a weekly Sabbath, and the second is a Holy Day Sabbath
or “High Sabbath” which occur annually and can fall on any
day of the week in connection with the Festivals outlined in
Leviticus 23 (See Leviticus 16:31; 23:24, 26-32,39).


The book of John gives us a clear reference to what kind of
Sabbath followed the day of Christ’s crucifixion,

“Now it
was the Preparation day of the Passover (The whole period
from Passover through the Festival of Unleavened Bread was
referred to as the Passover, but the High Days occur at the
beginning and the end of the Feast of Unleavened Bread)...”
(John 19:14 NKJ).

It was the preparation day before a High
Day, not the weekly Sabbath. Thus the crucifixion did not
necessarily take place on a Friday.

What we do know is that Christ was crucified in the late
afternoon and buried before the evening began.

We also
know that Christ had to be in the tomb for seventy-two
hours, which is to say, three days and three nights; and
thus He must have been resurrected immediately at the
end of the seventy-two hours, which would have been in
the late afternoon, before sunset.

Finally, we know that
the day He died was the day of preparation for the annual
“High Day” which could have fallen on any day of the week.

If we carefully use these facts, we can clearly understand
when Christ was crucified.

The first people to visit Christ’s tomb and report He was
resurrected were some of the women disciples including
Mary Magdalene who showed up early on the FIRST
day of the week, which according to the Jewish calendar
would be Sunday (John 20:1).

When Mary and the other
women arrived, they saw a tomb that had already been
opened (Mark 16:2-4).

Many Christians today read into
this account the false premise that this meant Christ was
resurrected Sunday morning, but in fact that is impossible.

For Christ to have been resurrected on Sunday, he would
have had to rise in the late afternoon in order to complete
the seventy-two hour time cycle (Remember, since he was
buried just before sunset, he would have to rise at the same
time seventy-two hours later).

John 20:1 only tells us that
by Sunday morning he had already risen:
John 20:1: Now the first day of the week Mary Magdalene
went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that
the stone had been taken away from the tomb. NKJV


What Mary Magdelene and the others found was a tomb
that was already empty. Since we know Christ had to be
resurrected before sunset (72 hours after He was buried),
it is clear that the end of the seventy-two hour period came
BEFORE Sunday even began, before the sun set on the
preceding Sabbath day. This means He rose late Saturday
which fulfilled perfectly the sign He gave the recalcitrant
Pharisees: the sign of Jonah’s literal three days and three
nights in the belly of the fish!

In order to discover the actual day of the week Christ
was crucified on, we must count back seventy-two hours
from just before the sunset ending the Saturday Sabbath
observance.

Counting backward we come to Wednesday just
before sunset! This means that Christ died on a Wednesday
afternoon, the preparation day for that year’s High Sabbath
that began the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

He was placed
in the tomb just before the sun set.
There are numerous other biblical scriptures, even prophetic
points, that support this time-line.

However, many will
wonder why it matters at all. The short answer to this
is that the true timeline of Christ’s death shows that the
celebration of Good Friday and Easter Sunday do not have
any basis in historical fact, and are in no way connected to
Christ’s true sacrifice.

Moreover, understanding the truth
regarding Christ’s resurrection reassures us that His proof
of His being the Messiah was true. Christ does not require
us to understand complex mathematical formulas or reason
around the obvious in order for us to prove who He was.
In fact, all we have to do is read the four separate accounts
that tell us when and how it happened (Matthew, Mark,
Luke, and John), count three days and three nights, and
understand the resurrection occured when and how Christ told us it would.
