Oh my, I am so tired, but thought I would get this post out right now before I shower and go to bed. It was a long day but fun! :)
Our ventured started out to Ramstein AFB, which is about an hour and a half give or take a few minutes from us. There wasn't really any traffic on the road which was nice.
When we got to Ramstein we went right over to Chilli's cuz we were starving and had not eaten any breakfast. Yes, this is just like any normal Chilli's in the States. Prices are a little bit higher but the food is all the same and the inside looks just like the local Chilli's in your neighborhood.
It was nice to be there, to feel some type of normal America for a brief moment.
Lunch was really good. And it was well worth the $26 we spent. :)
Then it was time to go shopping at the base exchange. Honestly we really didn't buy much. I bought a box for an eBay item I need to mail and some spray bottles for cleaning. I am suprised Robert didn't find any DVD's. Ramstein is usually known for a good selection.
After the base exchange, we went to the commissary (military term for grocery store) and got $63 worth of non perishable food items. We saved $7.50 in coupons. :) Ramstein's commissary is actually a full blown grocery store with everything you can imagine! "Well isn't your commissary like that where you are Dawn?" *Chuckles* Yeah right! LOL. It's a building with 4 aisles of food. That's about it. And there isn't really a selection. I mean, it gives us our basic needs, which is fine, but to actually go to a real American grocery store like the one in Ramstein was a much needed break from the usual. Plus I got a ton of coupons (they have coupon bins just lying out with oodles and oodles of them).
Oh, while I was in one of the aisles I happened to look to my left and saw this other covered woman staring at me. But before I could blink she was gone and I didn't see her again. She was an older woman, probably in her 60's or 70's and either German or Russian, but she was in a dress and black see thru covering, and when I turned her way I guess she felt embarrased that she was staring at me and quickly left. I tried to tell my hubby but she was gone. I was all excited. :)
It was a rather warm day today in Germany, so after our grocery shopping we decided to go back to the base exchange and rest and get something cold to drink. I got a Pepsi at Taco Bell and Robert got a water and some iced coffee thing at the coffee place, and we just sat and relaxed.
After a 30 minute break, Robert went and got his hair cut. The hair cut place there is so quick in getting to their customers, plus, they didn't botch Rob's haircut like they do in Darmstadt's barber shop. LOL. Seriously...everyone who walks out of Darmstadt's Barber Shop has crooked cuts...LOL.
We went and filled up our gas tank...$32!!!!! Gas is down to $3.04, so praise God for that!
Then since we were so close to Vogelweh AFB, we decided to go over there. I showed Robert a short cut how to get over there so we wouldn't have to take the Autobahn. Once in Vogelweh we went to the base exchange. I didn't buy anything, but Robert got a DVD I wish he hadn't of gotten. Every other word in it is the "F" word. I asked him, "would you watch this movie with Jesus sitting next to you". He says "yeah". *sigh* My gosh...please pray for my husband, and pray for me for strength to keep on truckin' for the Lord. I know I would never ever turn my back on the Lord, but being married to a ummm...religious non believer can get quite draining sometimes.
We rested for about 10 minutes and then decided that we needed to eat supper, so we went to the Subway in the bowling alley. Goodness, that place was huge!!!! And so clean! It was a good dinner.
Since I have never been to the commissary on Vogelweh, we went there. Grabbed a few items I forgot in Ramstein. It's a nice store as well.
Then we headed home...
Half way there, we notice that the autobahn we normally take is stuck in a STAU (German word for traffic jam). We thought there was an accident or something but what it was, they were repairing a bridge, so a detour was given. Oh fun...another STAU...and this one for an hour or more!!!! Oh my... and the traffic was backed up for miles and at times there was only one lane. It was nuts. Robert was kind of freaking out because he didn't know the way and if it would lead us home. I told him I have been down this way before and knew how to get home, but I don't think he believed me. So after an hour of bumper to bumper traffic, we finally got on another autobahn and got home in one piece.
What a long day! We are both tired. I know Robert more so, as he did all the driving.
I am glad my car is doing so well with all this driving. Praise God for that.
Well bloggers, I am about to pass out...LOL.
I hope your weekend is going good for you.
Love you!

Hi Dawn, love your blog. I found you from reading Veiled Glory. I am very fond of the Plain lifestyle and facinated by it. I am also new to covering. For now I just cover when I go to church or bible study or where I know there will be praying. I don't currently cover at work just yet. Just wanted to say hello and I enjoy your blog.
Oh how fun it was to read about Ramstein. We were stationed there from 1988-1991 and our youngest DD was born there. We didn't have a Chilli's then but did have a Burger King and the commissary stayed open for 24 hours which was a huge deal.
Enjoy your stay
looks like you had a big adventure. Wonder if the woman with the covering was a Russian Mennonite
