June 18, 2005 (4 year anniversary)
Vow renewal @ Holy Family Catholic Church
Lawton Oklahoma
Okay so like I promised the other day I wanted to share a few pictures from my wedding...or weddings...LOL.
In 2005, out of a year of Robert begging and pleading to me, we had our marriage "blessed" by the Catholic Church. Of course I can really get into this issue but I won't. I didn't care though, I got a new dress, a beautiful bouquet, great pictures, a yummy cake and my mom and close friends from Florida came up and were in the ceremony and Robert got what he wanted, for the Catholic Church to acknowledge that we were "really married" now according to them...(hmmmm) and so he can take Communion again (like I said above, I refuse to get into this subject because it won't go anywhere if we go back and forth on it).
Nancy was my maid of honor...again and we found her dress at Goodwill for $10 and I found her bouquet at another thrift store for $5. Robert and I went to Oklahoma City to about 10 stores looking for my dress...LOL. Ever dragged a man shopping for a wedding gown? Poor men...LOL. I actually wanted a dress with sleeves but they were the most expensive. And we were on a budget with this dress. I got it at BrideSmart for $297 (with tax and all). I bought my mom a pretty corsage (which of course made her cry...LOL) and we bought the guys (Robert and Nancy's husband Chris) boutineers or however you spell them. I also got fresh rose petals to throw down the aisle.
Nancy and I got our hair done for free by one of my sisters in Christ at my church.
We got a cake as well and also because it was Nancy and Chris' 1 year anniversary we suprised them with a cake of their own in the colors of their wedding. They were suprised. We all ate at this buffet called Fire Mountain after the ceremony and gazillion pictures. :)
The other 2 pictures were from the actual day we were married. I was 19, one month shy of turning 20 and din't know anything about weddings. I mean, I got my dress on sale for $125 at Dillard's! LOL. You can't see my shoes, but they were regular walking shoes with lace all around them, which I got at KMART for $7. My bestest friend whom I call 'sissy' which is Nancy of course made my bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquets, plus my veil, and the decorations. The only thing Robert and I bought were the food platters, soda, our cake at WalMart, and our rings at WalMart as well...LOL.
He wore his Class A uniform as you can see and the use of the chapel was free since I was in the Army at the time and it's free for all soldiers.
We didn't have a band..we used a CD player and played a few songs from the CD as people were gathering in the church and as us ladies walked down the aisle.
I had a maid of honor and bridemaid and Robert had a best man and groomsmen.
For either of these ceremonies we didn't do the honeymoon thing. Neither of us really wanted too. And of course we didn't have those idiot bachelor / bacheloette parties...ugh...gosh those are so...ugh....nevermind. I didn't even have bridal showers. I didn't care though, didn't ask for any of that. :) I was simple even back then...LOL.
Because Robert's family is how we shall we say this..below poverty level (I love them though..they are so kind), they were not able to attend either of these events. :(
So, I told Robert that for our 10 year anniversary (2011) we will go down to his family's area and renew our vows so his parents, sisters, and nieces and nephews can all be a part of our little shin dig. And guess what I plan on wearing this time? An ivory colored cape dress and ivory colored headcovering. Plain and simple. :)
And I think...that is that. Oh I am sure I left out stuff, in fact, I know I did, but I just wanted to get this thing up already especially since I am crunched for time.
God Bless You! <><

Thank you for visiting my blog! I loved seeing your wedding pictures :) Can't wait for the day when I wear a white dress too... not because of the dress of course... I just can't wait to finally become a wife! :)
Hello!
I found my way here through the Walled Garden Blog! It is a small world as they say! My DH and I were married at Ft Riley too! We fellowshiped in "plain circles" for about five years before we converted to the Catholic church.(Long story) I also lived in Germany during my late childhood/ early adolescent years. I had a blog that I did not keep up with but I think I am going to start again. Anyway, May God bless you as you seek to please Him with your life!

Those were beautiful pictures! Thanks for putting them up. Our first anniversary is right around the corner. :)

I'm glad you and your husband were able to be blessed by the Catholic Church. It's a real pain and I know first hand! I'm the Catholic in this situation. My husband is a divorcee for a variety of sad reasons, abortion and non-openness to life being two of them. We would have had to wait years and years and YEARS for the Catholic Church to judge on annulling the previous marriage so we married in the Church of Scotland, which is the church DH was baptised in. So now I'm basically a criminal. The Catholic Church's cannon law teaches that if one spouse does not grant equal say regarding children before the marriage then this invalidates the marriage in the eyes of God. This is exactly the case in DH's previous marriage but I'm not allowed to have the parish Priest make the decision to recognize our marriage. I'll have to live with DH "as brother and sister" while the Church drags its feet for years and years and years as it makes the annullment decision. I don't know what to do. I know what the facts say: DH's previous marriage was not vailid due to the above reason but the Church demands I go through a long drawn-out annullment process before I'm married according to Rome. It's a sad situation: I'm 32 years old, I want kids and if I live in chastity with my husband (the average time it takes for an annullment is 5 - 10 years) I'll never have kids. Ugh!! Please pray for me. And congrats on everything being "good" with your husband and the Catholic Church!!
How wonderful for you to have "two wedding days!" In a way that's a very special gift.
I am a Catholic. I have been married for almost 28 years in row to the same man. I know in the first part of my marriage, I did not follow my husband's spiritual leadership. It did cause a lot of stress and needless strife and put a wedge between us. It sure became a lot easier when we were on the same page, and a lot of blessings flowed from that.
A wife is to submit to the authority of her husband. Your husband believes in God, follows the teachings of Jesus Christ and since you mentioned he is devout I presume that means he prays and that he honors you as his wife. I urge you then to come along beside him as a wife, silentif you have to be. Complaing about his Catholicism behind him on his back in public blogs on the internet does not honor him.
I wish you a long and happy marriage with many blessings.
