How do you feel about that?
I guess it's one of my pet peeves. I'm the type of person that would rather be informed, even if it's only a 2 hour notice, that someone is on there way over.
We never know what the other person is doing, and it's just good manners and courtesy to let the friend know of you wanting to visit.
I don't want to come to someone's home unnanounced and find out I interupted an intimate moment between them and their other half, or their house is a mess, or they are dirty and sweaty from working in the garden / lawn and haven't had a moment to look presentable. It's embarrasing for that person.
Just saying...

I don't much like it either. My kitchen is in plain view of the front door so if I have been working and it is a mess (sewing to) it is there for all to see. Or maybe I haven't felt well, have a migrane etc.
Totally agree Dawn.
Hmmmm...If someone comes over un-announced...literally, to my door and didn't call, and there IS an issue like you mentioned (for me, it's usually a very tired husband who just got off the road, is sitting in on his couch in his pj's,) I just offer them a chair on the front porch. I don't have any problem saying: "I wasn't expecting anyone, so pardon me if we visit on the porch?" Then offer to get them a drink. There is NO reason why someone cannot call you ahead of time and let you know they are coming. That's only polite. Now, remember the time you came by my house? That's a spontaneous gesture! You were driving right by- that's different. We still had to visit outside because my husband was sick on the couch. But if someones intentionally planning a trip- no excuses.
