Marvelous Monday Musings

I was honestly too tired to blog yesterday when I got home from church. And today I have been doing the wifely duties and trying to get organized. Normally I would have been organized and had a schedule going but I have just slacked off. So, now, slowly I am finding homes for the small clutter that has accumulated in each of the rooms...well except the kitchen. That's another story, but we won't go there. :)
My husband didn't go to church with me like he said. :-( I was really looking forward to it too, but he stayed up till 2 a.m. online and I woke him up at 8 a.m. to see if he was still going (I already knew the answer but wanted to see for myself, just in case). *big heavy sigh*
On the way too church I had to stop and air up a tire as the warning light came on, but I made it to church with 15 minutes left to spare. Traffic is very light on a Sunday morning. :)
I am not going to go into all the details of the service because if you have been following my blog, you will pretty much know how it goes. But I will give you some Scriptures to look up and study and also make a few points that stood out to me.
Scriptures:
Exodus 31:18 , Exodus 34:1, Deut. 27, Jeremiah 31, Romans 2:12-14, Matthew 25:14,19, and 24, Psalm 39: 2&7, I Cor. 2:16, and pretty much the whole book of Mark. We spent a lot of time in that book during church.
For Sunday School we studying in Acts 24 and were getting into 25.
Some things that stood out to me:
** What are the road blocks that are hindering us from having the mind of Christ?
** Your #1 pursuit should be of the pursuit of truth.
** We need to acquaint ourselves with God and be at peace, are we living with unresolved issues?
** Your life/schedule/dayplanner, ect. should be Christ like. Do you have room in your days to be of help to others?
** Do we have the mind of Christ in view of children? Remember Jesus blessed the little children. How to we view them? In Genesis Issac blessed Jacob.
** The mind of Christ will bring us to a full hearted surrender to our Father's will.
** Do we see serving God as hard and restricting? Why?
** We need to have a continuous renewing in our hearts for Christ.
** Without Christ, we can do nothing.
** What fills our mind during our free time? Is it concerns of the world or is it about Godly things?
** Do we have a mind of Christ when we see the unsaved? Do we have a burden for them or are we too busy too notice?
After church was over, we had a fellowship meal. The picture above is not of us, but it looks similar to how our meals look. :)
The food was delicious and the fellowship was even sweeter. I learned that this church has a school (K-8th grade) and it also does prison ministry. :-)
After eating I left and went home.
It was a swell time and I praise the Lord that He gave me another Sunday to worship Him.
I don't think I will be able to make it out this Wednesday or Sunday. Wednesday isn't a normal Bible study, it's going to be testimonies and things to gear up for Sunday which is their communion / footwashing service. I would love to go to that (even though I won't be able to participate as I am not a member yet) and I might, but Robert has his Reserve 'drill meets' this weekend and since it's his first I have no idea how that all will pan out.
If worse comes to worse, I will just go to the holiness church in Irving I went to when I first got to Texas. It's due time I dropped in and said hello to them. :)
Robert had to take some type of test today in order to possibly become a manager at McDonalds. Hopefully we hear back from them. :-)
Tomorrow morning we have to wake up bright and early and call the finance folks in Germany because we still have not gotten the $20,000 that we were supposed to get, so lucky us, we get to run up our phone bill. :- / I hope it will all get straightened out, thankfully Robert has it on paper so if they try to give us the 'I don't know what you are talking about' deal, we have the proof.
Well I hope you all have a safe and blessed evening tonight. I plan on finishing the dishes, folding the laundry (if it's dry), doing my Bible readings, showering and off to bed I go.
Oh...and just to let you know...sometime soon...maybe within the next 2 weeks or so, I plan on having a CD giveaway. Just thought I would forewarn you. I have 2 copies and they are A capella music from the Amish-Mennonite Youth Choir. It's a wonderful CD! Even my hubby loves it. :) It's going to be a quick giveaway, maybe only 2 days, hence the reason for the early warning. :)
Blessings,
Dawn

Hi Dawn,
sorry hubby wasn't ablt to go with you, maybe another time.
Are you thinking of seeking membership in the church, it kinda sounded that way. Thats great. Its a long journey but I am sure you would find it so worth while.
Is the holiness church pentacostal, seems I heard they were, but I don't know much about that church.

Hi Patty,

Right now I am not currently trying to seek membership, just seeking it out and seeing if that's where the Lord will have me. I don't want to jump on the bandwagon just because my flesh says yes, got to make sure God is a part of that process too. :-)

Actually the holiness church that I go to once in awhile is more full gospel than Pentecostal if that makes sense. :-)

I am also sorry your dh didn't make it. We will continue to pray though.
I have always wanted ro visit a Mennotite church but from what I have been told..and maybe I have been told wrong..But I was told..
1. Men and ladies are not allowed to sit together....My DH would never go with that because it splits the family.Kwim?
2. I was also told that you can lose your salvation..and boy that would be horrid to not have the assurence in Christ.I mean, what would happen if I died during one of those times..YIKES!
3.They are anti-war and military and would never consider voting.

Anyway, those were the red flags that my DH did not like..Please do correct our teaching if any of these things are not true.
TIA!
In Christ~Michelle

Hi Michellec,
answering here since we spent most of our married life a part of the mennonite church Dawn has been visiting, yes, men and women sit seperated, just like God instituted in the tabernacle by having a womans section and a mans section. It helps keep people focused on the message.
Mennonites and Amish do not believe in once saved always saved. And they are both non-resistant. Turning the other cheek in all circumstances. They will not take up arms. They do not vote either or participate in politics on any level. Amish and Mennonites do not press charges when a crime is committed against them, choosing instead to let God handle the situation.
It might seem odd to many, but it works.

Hi Dawn,
Glad to see you are letting the Lord direct your paths regarding church membership.
I really don't know much about the term "Full Gospel" in that context. Do they speak in tongues ?

Thank you Patty for answering Michelle's questions for me. You would know more than me at the moment anyway. :-)

I will say though, just because the Mennonites do not vote, they do pray for God to have His will with the elections and we pray for our government officials and all those important folks up there.

Also as visitors in a Mennonite church, you are able to sit together as a family. :) They won't toss you out a window if you don't. :)
Besides what Patty said, also with the men and women on either side it really helps with the harmonics of the singing.

You should go for a visit Michelle if there is a church near you. The only way to find out the truth is to see for yourself, not that me or Patty are lying, but sometimes what we read or hear may not always be correct. Hence the reason we should go see for ourselves. :)

Patty,
Yes this holiness church we have been messaging about speaks in tongues. So do I. :)

Hi Dawn,
In Stevens church, which is more liberal than grandview, they allow families to sit together.
In all our years of attending Grandview we never seen any family sit together, even vistors. I know no one would say anything but it sure would make you feel strange if you were the only ones : )
Have you requested a copy of the church standards ? Each mennonite church may have their own standards unless its part of a conferance like Eastern Mennonites or Beachy, then the standards are similar for all the churches in that group

Hi Dawn,
I didn't mean to come across as a know it all, please forgive me. You probably already know far more than I do about the plain life.

You didn't sound like a no it all Patty. How am I supposed to learn of I don't get some input. You attended there a lot longer than I have. :-)

I talked to Janet about when my husband visits about him sitting with me and she said it is perfectly fine.
We had some visitors this weekend and they sat apart.
I don't mind sitting apart, that's how we did it in the church I got saved in, but my hubby over analyzes everything, so... :-)

I think I have a copy of the church standards..it's small and gray in color? I have another booklet or pamphlet or something with the church standards in it as well. I have all kinds of literature which I am devouring every day and learning.
Whatever questions I have, I write them down to ask later on.

Well I have to cook an early dinner as hubby has to take care of some college business this evening, so off I go!
