What a day...or night...

Well hello there! Boy have I got an update for you all...
Go get a cup of coffee, some tea, some Pepsi and come back to read my post for today :-)
Yesterday (Monday) Robert went over to our clinic at 8 a.m. to have the stint removed. Unfortunately, our clinic doesn't have any physicians (yes you read that right, our clinic has no physicians...lol) so they couldn't remove it.
They called the US hospital in Heidelberg which is 30 minutes away but they said they wouldn't remove it. So...that meant we had to make the hour and a half trek to the US hospital in Landsthul. Oh fun...
Thankfully traffic wasn't bad and we got there before everyone went to lunch.
I dropped Robert off at the door and went to find parking.
By the time I got to the urology clinic he was already done...and feeling better.
Shortly after...it began...
We were walking to the car to get something out of it as we decided to eat lunch at the dining facility and that's when the pain began for Robert.
It was mild cramping at first and we walked slower so he could hold on to the railing.
The pain increased as we were getting our food and he was getting really really uncomfortable.
We sat down. I told him he should go to the urology clinic and see what Doc Matthews says.
He ate a french fry, drank some water and hobbled over to the clinic while I wolfed down my food.
10 minutes later I found him at the urology clinic in a wheelchair in excruciating pain begging the assistants for drugs to take away the pain.
His kidney was contracting and cramping so hard that he couldn't even sit.
Doc Matthews was busy in ICU so the assistant said we should go to the ER as they would be able to give him some drugs.
So I wheeled him over there and the pain got so bad I knew he was getting ready to cry. He started getting verbally loud as it was the only way for him to concentrate on something else than the withering pain.
The ER staff...my goodness...they must be fresh out of AIT or med school because all of them, right down to one of the ER docs all that that 'duh' look about them and weren't really helpful. You asked them a question and they stared at you and didn't know how to answer it.
After Robert got his vitals done and an ID bracelet on, he was wheeled in to the ER room. And he ended up sitting there screaming in agonizing pain while the staff just farted around at the desk.
A med student came in and started an IV and eventually Robert was given some Morphine.
That didn't work.
30 minutes later he was given more Morphine.
That didn't work.
30 minutes after that, he was given a 3rd shot of Morphine and finally it worked and he was able to relax and calm down and nap a little bit.
Doc Matthews came in a few hours later and told Robert he could go home because what he was feeling was normal...blah blah blah...
He wrote him a prescription for more medicine and we were released and headed down to the pharmacy for a 30 minute wait as the Doc took forever calling the meds in.
We left Landsthul and went 15 minutes away to Ramstein Air Force Base and ate dinner and bought a heating pad.
Robert was feeling really good and happy and just normal and feeding his appetite.
We then stopped at the Shoppette and he grabbed some YuGiOh cards and than...
It began again...but this time it was much worse....
The pain came back full force and this time it made him scream and cry and I honestly thought he was going to pass out.
I never seen him like this at all...it was quite scary...
Thankfully we didn't go home, and we hopped in the car and I drove as fast I could back to the hospital.
I dropped him off at the front door and ladies helped him as he lay almost in the front doorway screaming for help.
I parked and went in and he was back in the ER room...
It took about 10 minutes for a nurse to come in (this time the night shift was on duty and they were so much more knowledgeable and respectful and they knew what they were doing) and she gave him a shot of something...forgot what it was but she said it was like getting 8 shots of Morphine at once.
It worked within 1 minute and he laid there for 2 hours babbling away about all kinds of stuff...lol...oh if I only had a tape recorder...lol...
At least he was pain free, that's what mattered.
About 10:15 p.m. he was getting admitted to a room upstairs. I walked with the nurse as she wheeled him up there.
Unfortunately, we were on a different floor and I wasn't allowed to stay the night with him like I did last week :-( He didn't even have any room mates! I don't see why I couldn't stay, ya know? I was so exhausted and bleary eyed and just wanted to rest my head...
But thankfully the doctor on the floor called around and found a room at the Inn right around the corner from the hospital and since it was Space Available, I had to get there ASAP or else I would lose it.
I kissed the hubby and bolted down to the car and to the Inn.
I got a nice room...I think it's reserved for the flight crews that come in. It was more like a mini apartment. Had a full living room, full kitchen, full bathroom, and full bedroom. Fully updated too. Praise the Lord. It was a blessing indeed.
I didn't get any sleep though. Not because I was worried, because I wasn't, I just was so over tired so I laid in bed and stared at the ceiling till I fell in a fitful sleep.
I got up a little after 6:30 a.m. and ironed out my clothes and took a sponge bath and did some Bible reading and prayer time with my Lord. It was a blessing to have that one on one time with Him.
I checked out at 8 a.m. and went to the hospital where Rob was sleeping.
To sum up the day today, as time went on, he got to feeling better, just really sleepy from all the drugs they doped him up with.
He was discharged a little before 5 p.m., we ate dinner at the dining facility, got gas in the car and headed home.
Again, thankfully the roads were great for the way home.
We got home at 7:15 p.m. and both showered and he is doing 99% better! Feeling and looking like his old self. He is doing so so much better and it's a blessing. He virtually has no pain! He did take a Percocet to help him sleep tonight, but he is fine other than that.
No kidney or bladder pain....some achiness, but that's it.
Hallelujah! :-)
A shower felt so good I tell ya!
Tomorrow Robert has to go back to work but he has his Percocet and Vicadin to take with him if he starts feeling pain again. I hope his unit won't over work him...they can care less if a soldier isn't feeling well...seriously...they are evil....
We are both looking forward to some sleep tonight.
Tomorrow I got lots of housework and laundry to catch up on among a myriad of other things...
Okay well hubby wants on the laptop so I will close. Just wanted to give you all a heads up about what our last 24 hours were like....
You all take care. God bless you all. And enjoy the rest of your week!!!
Dawn

Wow, what a crazy trip but I'm so glad he's finally feeling better! Thank God for pain medications, that's all I can say! I avoid them whenever I can, but it's sure nice to have them when you need them.

Oh my! That just sounds awful! I'm so glad he's feeling better and that you're both home. Its always so much better to sleep in one's own bed.

Wow.... poor guy. I know the feeling of just hollering thinking it will somehow help you manage the pain. That shot you were talking about is called Delad, or however you spell it. That is what they used to give me before I had my surgery because nothing else would take away the pain like that did. It was a blessing at the time but WOAH NELLY!!

Anyway, just thankful to know he is doing better.

Take care,
Chica

I just had to laugh hysterically at this "8 shots of Morphine at once.
