Is America headed for another Depression?

http://www.theamericannightmare.org/FOOD_SHORTAGE__AAK.html

This was sent to me yesterday and I looked over it with quite some fascination.
You see, over the past 6 months or so, the Lord has constantly been on my heart to prepare for another Depression type disaster. It's something I haven't been able to shake off.
I see the constant rise of fuel, stamps, tax, milk, food, etc. continue to steadily rise and something in that pea sized brain of mine has the warning bells going off.
You know and I know, we will never ever see $1.25 for gas again. We will never see stamps at .37 again. You will not see a gallon milk for $1.99 unless it's on sale which is very rare now.
Meat continues to rise as well. Even at our commissary here in Germany, the price of ground beef has went up 30 cents. And we get our beef here in the same country!

America doesn't even have any more money to keep our troops in Iraq. Heaven only knows where they are getting it from now. I don't want to know.

But anywho, back to the story...you see, it's been on my heart to begin stocking up on not just food, water and batteries, but health and beauty products as well.
The kicker is...the movers will be coming in June to pack our stuff up. We can't take certain foods with us. But just to be on the safe side, I am going to contact the transportation office and see if we can still have rice, beans, spices and the such taken back with us. I think we can as long as it's not opened.
Once we get back to the USofA we will still have military privlages for a month and a half and we plan on using them at the commissaries on the bases around us.
I will have my coupons handy and ready.

I know this sounds really dumb to some but you know what? I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I don't know how to can to preserve food but I plan on learning. I don't know how to garden but I plan on learning.
I don't know how to sew, but I plan on learning.

How about you...what are your thoughts and feelings about the economy heading down the road to another Depression?
What are you doing about it? Meaning, are you stocking up on anything? If so, what?

When President Bush starts handing out those rebate checks or whatever they are called, choose very wisely what you will spend it on. Forget about the TV's and DVD's and wardrobes, think about the very near future and what may possibly take place.
If you can, pay off any debts you have now (I know mortgages take longer, I wasn't talking about that but more like credit cards, student loans, car payments, vet bills, doctor bills, etc).

Okay now that that's out of my system, but still weighs heavily in my heart and mind, I want to wish you all a blessed and fantabulous weekend!
Robert (that's my hubby in case you didn't know) turns 29 tomorrow!!! Old man...lol.
He wants $40 to go buy Yu-Gi-Oh cards (*sigh*). And dinner will be chili cheese dogs, fries and an Oreo Pie for dessert per his request..
My mom sent him a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart which he will use when we go to Texas later on this month. He was happy.

Today I have the car so I am going to be running around town like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get everything done before I have to go pick up beloved from work. These Germans better stay out of my way today...lol.

God Bless,

Dawn

Dawn,
Most moving companies will ship non-parishable food items. Our last movers shipped my pantry with no problem. It wans't extensive, as I tend to stop buying a few months out from a move just to cut down on weight but they didn't have a problem with it. They even did our half dozen bottles of wine.
Also while the commisary does have some good prices I have just done some comparison when out with my mom and have found that it's not realy any cheaper than the high end groceries off base so don't stress too much about getting stuff bought.
Have a blessed Day

I agree that the future of our country doesn't look too bright. We have paid off all debts, and have a savings account for the first time ever. I know how to can and garden, but will have to brush up on that when we get back to the USA.

I agree with BC that you should be able to ship most items. The only thing that has to be unopened is liquid items. And nothing flammable will go (if they see it).
I also agree that the commissary isn't always cheaper. Shop around a little first.
"we" retire in 3 years, so we are starting to plan on having less income.

Your hubby and my son will get along great. You should see the Yu-Gi card collection he has. Ray has helped him build that up. I could care less. LOL

I had started to stock up on things. Everyone said I was crazy and I set it aside for awhile. But, I already have plans and a place in our garage that I'm going to use to start restocking. My theory is. Better safe then sorry!

Have a great day.
We got snow last night. So I'm going to go snap some pictures.

Hi Dawn,
Once you get moved this way, I would be more than happy to teach you how to can, make soap that sort of thing.
I watched the Waltons a couple times recently and remarked each time that they lived so simply that the depression did not cripple them.
We have made our garden much bigger this year just because life seems to unsettled in the world right now

Oh my goodness I have had these feelings for the past 3 to 4 years!

I thought I was just being over sensitive to all the things that had been happening. I have had feelings that I need to get back to basics and learn the basics because it will be needed.

Thanks for this post! God Bless You & Your Family!

Definitely a good idea to plan ahead. I really want to plant a vegetable garden but don't know if it'll do well in our high altitude. I also want to learn to can and preserve things...but I'm sorely ignorant on those things.
We have alot of debt to pay off - personal loans and student loans being the 2 biggies. But with my hubby's new job, we should be able to start knocking some of those down.
Blessings and Godspeed for when you move back to the states!

OH, one more thing - if you're hubby's into you-gi-oh, he might enjoy this interactive game called Pirates. They're sold in packs similar to Magic the gathering and each pack comes with 2 ships, game rules, teeny-tiny-don't-sneeze dice, crew, and other goodies. I even enjoy playing it! Hubby and I have quite an extensive collection of ships going (the cards come with punch out ships that you can assemble so they're 3-d) One of the types game stores sell is found here http://www.wizkidsgames.com/pirates/default.asp

You are not crazy at all.

We already plan to use our rebate for rice, dried peas, oats, a cheap wood stove, medicines, larger sized coats, long johns, etc. (whoch are on clearance now!), ammunition, and a tank of farm fuel (halleluia we have a well!!!!).

My son recently brought home the Pirates game. It is pretty cool (even from the viewpoint of a middle aged mom).

We've felt this way for sometime now. We keep saying how much today's news looks just like it did when we were newlyweds in the 70s. They were able to keep it as just a "bad recession" then, I don't think they will be able to this time.

It's so nice to know I am not insane when it comes to this :-) Thank you for making me normal ladies...lol.

Also thank you to those military ladies about the advice of taking our pantry stuff back to America with us. It's nice to know. :-)

Yes I know the commissary doesn't always have the lowest prices, so I will be shopping around once we get settled.
Meat at our commissary here in Germany is getting so high. I don't know why. All of of meat is slaughtered here.

You all have a glorious weekend!

Hey Dawn! I didn't know you all were moving back to the states! You mentioned Texas, is that where you will be?

I agree with what others said that most moving companies will ship the non-perishable food items but I'm really not certain about international shipping, there may be laws for certain items when you bring them back into the US.

Have a great weekend! ;)

Just some thoughts here.
Be sensible, but remember the following verses. Besides, what is happening in our world today is just proof that the Lord is coming soon.

Matthew 6:25-34
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Psalm 46
"God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging."

What we should be doing instead of rushing around, preparing for the worst, is helping bring the coming of the Lord asap, ie., on our knees praying, and on our feet, witnessing to everyone we meet.
The Lord will come once all who are alive have had an opportunity to hear the message of salvation.

Amen Paula...Amen.

This issue doesn't consume my every waking thought, but it has been on my heart for some time, so I am beginning to want to do something about it while I can.

Soul winning is the most important thing. I agree.

It's not that I don't trust the Lord to provide for us if the world keeps continuing down a dark path. I know He will beyond the shadow of a doubt.
I like being prepared is all.

Like if there was a hurricane coming my way. I wouldn't just sit in my house and say "God will take care of me, I don't need to board up the house and leave the city" and not do anything. That's just crazy.

I do know we are living in the end times and it's getting darker and darker with each passing year.
It makes me thrilled because I will be able to meet you and all these other lovely bloggers in Glory but it also makes me hunger to witness more to the lost.

Praise the Lord!

Hi Dawn~ I don't think your thoughts are dumb, but I do agree with Paula too, The Lord will always provide. God commands us to not worry about what we think we need. We need to focus on Him and strenghten our faith that He will keep His promise.

I am excited for your move. I have done my share. My hubby just retired after 20yrs in the Marine Corps. We moved international, twice, and going over they told me no spices except unopened. Coming back the Okinawan men packed EVERYTHING! That was interesting. Of course they did a fantastic job, better than the Americans in North Carolina who started packing our trash can in the kitchen. HELLO?!

Do you know where you are headed yet? What an adventure to go to a new place and plant roots again! I wonder what the Lord has in store for you both there?
God's peace~Dee

The non perishables can be shiped on international shipments also. Our last move was one and this coming one will be one. You can even get around the open liquids if you put them in a plastic bag and then put them into storage totes that you have packed yourself, however if the liquid does damage to anything the moving company most likely will not take liablity for the damage. The military may or may not pay the claim though. (Two years of military claims adjusting in the moving industry, 8+ years as a military spouse).

I don't have much control over what we spend our money on...my spending money is the occasional rebate I get from grocery shopping and a fraction of my Christmas/birthday gift money. We're on a pretty tight budget right now but somehow manage to save a lil bit every month. Our last tax refund check went almost in it's entirety into our savings. I've never understood people who blow the whole thing. It's not *extra* money, it's money, be wise with it.

The LORD provides that is true. He has provided for us when we were at our wits end because hubby was out of work and the pantry was bear... (this was shortly after we married).

As far as another depression coming. I think there is but I think it's more of what will be in the tribulation time. I won't be here for it! Hallelujah! The LORD is coming soon... we just don't know the day nor the hour.

I like be prepared and having things on hand. It is wise to be prepared in case of storms knocking out the power, etc.

In regards to that, I know how to garden as well can and dehydrate and do those things with surplus items.

We make as few as possible trips to the store now because we live 20miles from the nearest town and drive a 12 passenger van... which needless to say has a "drinking problem" when it comes to gas... it drinks too much and it's desire for gas does not match our wallet. LOL

I sew the majority of the girls' dresses now and oldest dd sews her own skirts. I have made blouses and skirts for myself before and it's time to replenish my closet with new ones as the others need to be rotated to chore dresses. We sew because the clothing in the stores are not to our standards. We prefer longer skirts and dresses. We used to attend a Mennonite church and oldest dd and I wore the cape dresses and head coverings... I still think I should but hubby has asked that I not any longer so I am submitting to his request. The two youngest girls wear double layers (meaning a jumper or pinafore over a dress -- think Little House on the Prairie style) and I (as well as oldest dd) wear jumpers and a blouse or a skirt and blouse.

Sorry that was probably a rambling comment.

I hope you have a wonderful day!
Laura

Losing anything can be quite jolting. More so when a person loses something that is very basic to his or her existence. Losing a social status or social respect is something that pushes most men to depression. The rate of depression is higher in men who have lost social status as compared to the fair sex. Talking about depression, today there are quite many ways to get rid of this awful disease. In case you want to know more about it just have a look at the following link http://www.xanax-effects.com .
