I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14
“Look at that dog!” my wife Joan exclaimed over the noise of the machinery. She was driving our small Massey tractor pulling a flat bed wagon, as I was running the skid loader to pick up the many round bales in the field.
I grinned and shook my head, rolling my eyes. Many times I had observed the same scene when Jethro, the farm dog, eagerly accompanied me to the fields. There he ran, with his head pointed to the sky and his mouth hanging open, frantically pursuing several small birds. If the birds flew too high, especially bigger birds, he simply chased their shadows. He did this for hours!
“If he keeps that up, he’s going to have a heart attack!” Joan added further. “I know what you mean,” I answered, “and yet, to my knowledge, Jethro has never once caught a bird, in spite of all his desperate attempts.” As I went on to spear the next bale, my mind also went on. How many times are we like that?
Most of us have goals and ambitions. But maybe we should pause a few minutes to think about our pursuits. Do they have real purpose, such as living for the happiness of those around me? Am I pursuing God with all my heart, constantly striving to get in step with Him? Or am I like Jethro, vainly chasing something that I will never likely achieve?
The more time and energy we pour into nonessentials, the less time we have for more important things. It is so easy to get sidetracked by unimportant things in this fascinating world.Let us pursue worthwhile things!

As I read this devotion and thought came to me that I know most of you have heard of before.
No matter what we do here while on Earth, unless it's for the Glory of God, it's not going to matter once we are dead.
The only thing that's going to matter is what we have done for Him.
When we stand before our Lord He is not going to care how many years you slaved away at college to get a piece of paper that says you are important.
He's not going to care how big or small your house is or if you drive a BMW or a little Ford Escort.
What He is going to ask you is how you have lived for Him. Are you in constant communication with our Father throughout your day? Why or why not?
Are you constantly seeking answers in His Word instead of Oprah or a self help book?
Have you been sharing the Gospel with the lost?
What are you spending your money on, well actually God's money? Are you using it to feed and clothe the poor or are you using it for Starbucks and shopping trips to the mall, or perhaps the new HD TV'S and DVD's.
You know, it only costs $32 a month to sponsor a child from www.compassion.com
All the things we do on this Earth, if they are done to get man's approval or done to make you feel like you have done something good, it's all done in vain unless it's done as unto the Lord.
As Christian's we need to have a servent's heart. A heart ready to serve and minister as He allows.
That's what's going to matter when we stand face to face with Him.
Remember, we can't take all of our material stuff, money, cars, houses, clothes, TV's, etc. to Heaven with us...but what we can take to Heaven is another precious soul. Another human being.
Pursue God. Crave His Holiness. Yearn to live for Him.

What am I pursuing?

Hi Dawn,
Just something for you to keep in mind on your trip to Arlington this spring. The crime rate has skyrocketed in Arlington in the last couple years. Violent crime too. If at all possible you might want to consider living out of town a bit, like in Mansfield or even Lillian, which is a tiny town not to far away from UT Arlington.
