I am not a supporter of the Harry Potter series. And the fact that world wide the last book came out today is proof of what god they are serving. The Bible says we cannot serve God and man.
Our base exchange opens at 11 a.m. My husband was flipping out because I wasn't ready. He was so petrified that all the books would be sold out. He's never this anxious to go to church.... is God really that boring to him?
We got to the base exchange at 11:30 a.m. and the mad rush of people were gone and of course the books were still there. Can you believe people are paying $30 for this filth? $30!!! People right and left of me were whipping out there cash and credit cards buying sometimes 2 or 3 of these books! Hold on while I pick up my jaw that just dropped!
Not once did I see someone walking to the register with a Bible in hand. The 'religious' section in our base exchange hardly ever gets noticed..trust me, there is actual dust on the Bibles there...
Why be so zealous over this book but not over the Holy Word of God? Is God's Word boring? Not enough excitement?
Why is it that my husband will read thru his HP book today and his Bible goes untouched as always. Right now it's holding up his fan in the bedroom.
Why is it that 'Christians' justify why they read HP just calling it a 'work of fiction'? So their conscience isn't seared? They don't want to feel convicted?
I don't see people lined up to buy the Word of God. I don't see them lined up to get a book on how to allow God to transform our lives, how He can save marriages, and renew our strength. Nope...
Why is it that when a new Game Boy, PSP, game comes out people rush right over because 'they have to have it' but on Sundays they can sleep in justifying on how tired they are and how 'God will understand'. Will He really? Will He really understand that you would rather read a satanic book like HP while the Bible gets used as a stool for some object? Will He understand as you watch mindless TV/ DVD's for 5 , 6, plus hours, or play 5 hours or more on your little game thing there, than on your knees in prayer for people?
Can you lay your head down at night and know you did your best for God that day?
Whom are you serving?

*applause* for this excellent post!!!
We don't do the books or the movies. I have always been scared of them. I don't listen to what other people tell me about it. I just have always had a fear of the books and the movie.
Ok, I'm sorry I tried to just walk away. But, it is driving me crazy. I was brought up that you never put anything on top of your Bible. Can you maybe find something else to put under the fan?
My dad has always said. Treat your Bible with respect.
Hope I didn't offend.
Rebecca
That's not my Bible, that's his...LOL. I'd love to put that dumb HP book under it! Yes we have another thing to put under it, I guess his Bible was the cloest thing he could get to without having to actually walk into the other room for something else...ugh...
Please excuse me if some of my posts seem harsh...I have been a big ball of different emotions latly and sometimes they all come out at once and I am a wreck!
I mean what I post it's just that some people may think I am too harsh and want to apoligize ahead of time, because I am not a mean person, just a little frustrated, depressed, angry, unsatisfied with life right now and am one big sobbing mess.
Bless you guys <><
Today is my anniversary and what are we doing for our special day? Spraying liquid cattle crap all over the fields. ROMANTIC!!! (Just thought I'd try and get you giggling...) When you live on a farm you HAVE to take advantage of any good dry days that come - and they are RARE here in Orkney hehehe!
What a bummer that you're feeling down. Being a woman really is a struggle - we get the lion's share of the emotions and the men get to sail through the day basically unaffected by all sorts of really important things. I'm praying for you!
As for the Harry Pooter books...One thing I DONT get about them is the major hypocracy of Christian parents letting their kids read the books and watch the movies. Even Erlend, who is not a christian, feels the same way!
WHY would christian parents teach their kids to avoid Satan, the occult, witchcraft, sorcery etc and then say, "Here go ahead and read Harry Potter!"???
And what's going to happen to that kid when they choose the occult over God in the end - and their parents judge them and condemn them for their choice???
What kind of mind game are they playing with their kids???
Worse yet, what kind of game are they playing with their child's soul????
Pure hypocracy. Erlend says it's because people are big wimps and are afraid that if they say to their kids, "No, you can't read Harry Potter because it goes against our beliefs" then the parents of their kids' friends will think they are weird and close minded.
I think Erlend pretty much hit the nail on the head!
Dawn, I know how you feel...I had a year of that up until about 6 weeks ago...now I feel peaceful. :)
As to why folks don't respect the things of God... Well, they're pagans..that is what they do! My husband tells me this all the time. Accepting this fact has helped me mellow out. I'm learning to finally love people without getting all flustered about their sin. Yeah, sometimes they need a "knock in the head" to wake them up but that is a rare event and be careful in swinging the hammer!

Dear Sister!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! on your award from Anna!
Well deserved!

Dawn, while I haven't made up my mind about Harry Potter yet, what I absolutely can't understand is the mad frenzy of people who are spending the night outside bookstores so they can read it as soon as possible *rolls eyes*. As you rightly noticed, these same people will probably be too lazy to do something that really matters: develop their relationship with God, reach out to the needy, give to charity...
My parents love the HP series. They think it teaches values, like treating people fairly, etc, etc. I think it doesn't matter what it teaches that's good, its the whole premise of what its teaching that isn't good that we need to look at.
I've had more than my share of demonic troubles. I refuse to bring something so blatanly wrong into my home. Of course, I'm constantly having to clean house on the more subtle things. Like my own thoughts! sheesh...
I'm sorry, I'm confused. How is Harry Potter satanic? I have a book "The Gospel According to Harry Potter" by Connie Neal. If HP gets written off, then what about other books, like Lord of the Rings or pretty much any fantasy book? I love Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle by Betty MacDonald, would this be considered evil as well? I don't mean to offend anyone, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I'm simply trying to find out the reasoning behind this opinion.
FYI: I have read all the books except the latest one. I don't go into the whole "craze" thing and wait for it to be quite cheap or borrow it from the library.
God Bless!
Hello,
I want to start off and say that Dawn made a great post about this Evil Book. Just want to say before I continue is that each person and household has their own convictions. If you don't think Harry Potter is that wicked then it's between the Lord and yourself. I am very bold on certain subject and I am bold on this one.
I have a friend that started reading Harry Potter since the 1st few books came out. In the middle of the first one she was visited with evil Spirits. Dawn I am not speaking about evil spirits to glorify just to explain what I heard. Each book she got away slowly away from reading Gods word and then went into Anime.
My sister's daughter 14 gets each book released and she is a Harry Potter person. However, She is young and don't understand the hype. However, I Pray someday I can set aside and tell her that what she is reading isn't right to read she needs to read her Bible.
For me I watched the first two movies and I got bored with them. To me it's boring. The Bible is my intrests and living a godly example.
