Yesterday evening before 10 p.m. Robert calls me after he got out of his evening college class and tells me the car doesn't start. He was starting to freak out and panic, but I remained calm and got him some towing numbers to call and check the prices out first. Before we hung up, he told me that he tried getting help from some of the college folks and even flagged people down and not one person bothered to offer any help. How sad. It's like Germany all over again.
Are we that self centered that we can't help someone? I mean, he was in the college campus parking lot.
Well you know what they say...what goes around comes around....
After he called these 2 towing companies, which by the way were highly overpriced and even told Robert he would have to find his own way home (oh yeah, that makes a whole lot of sense, huh?), he decided that he would just get some help, put the car in 'neutral' and move it away from the metered sites and park it in the free parking on campus. He has a friend that lives on the campus there so he called him and together they were able to move our hunk of fiberglass to the free parking area. Praise the Lord for that blessing.
Now, he needed to find a way home as his friend didn't drive. So I looked up a reputable cab company online whole trying to keep the poor fellow enouraged (by now it was nearing 11 p.m. and he had a massive headache and was hungry), so I found him a decent cab service and didn't end up seeing him till after midnight because the dispatcher got the streets messed up, but eventually the cab driver found my hubby. And he was a real nice cab driver in a Lincon Town car of all things. :-)
Hubby said he was awesome. The gentleman even stopped off somewhere and allowed Robert to get some food without the extra charge.
It was $28 to get from the college to home which is much better than a $150 tow anyday!!!! So praise the Lord for that!
This morning we called an Enterprise near us and they came and got us and took us to the office. We rented a car for the week as we did not know the outcome of what would become of our car. Very friendly people they are.
We got our rental (Chevy Colbalt) and went off to eat lunch as we didn't eat breakfast, then went to the college to see if the car would start or if we had to call a tow and get it hauled down to the Chevy dealership.
Believe it or not, the thing started! We let it run for 10 minutes to see if it would die, and it didn't, so we drove over to the Chevy dealership.
They weren't busy at all and the mechanic right off the bat, even before seeing underneath the hood told Robert it was probably the battery as Robert described what the noise was.
So the mechanic got a little battery reader doo dad thing and hooked it up to our battery and sure enough it was low and on it's way out the door.
So, we got a new battery put in in less than 5 minutes and we were off.
Cost us $113 with tax and all, but they were all very friendly, informative, and quick, so we have no complaints.
We have had the car for 5 years so the battery was destined to go out sometime, ya know?
Robert said the car sounds a whole lot better and doesn't sound like it's going to keel over, so that's good. :-)
We still plan on keeping the rental car for the week. Why not? It's already paid for. :)
This evening I was able to make it out to the Mennonite church. We had a hymn sing! What a blessing! We pretty much sang hymns the whole time. There was a time for prayer requests and prayer time as well.
A brother did get up and talked a little bit on Hebrews 11:36 and Psalm 22: 1-32 and how David was distressed and pouring his heart out to God.
Remember, God still provides for His people. Also, we need to find our strength in the Lord during our tough times. God notices are distresses.
That's what I got out of the reading that the brother talked about. He didn't really expound much on it all.
This Sunday Robert is going to church with me. Mainly it's because of something he needs to do for a college project, but I honestly feel God has bigger plans then that. So please keep us and this Sunday in your prayers. :) We are also having a fellowship meal after service and I told Robert to come with an appetite because everything is just so yummy. :-)
Well this is turning into a novel, so I will close with a hearty Goodnight and God Bless You!

Oh goody!!!!
Only the Lord would have him taking a college course that would require a trip to church "grin".
I wish we had a Mennonite fellowship up here that was as strong as yours sounds.
The one here is highly legalisitic.

Oh I wish you were closer, we could have helped you out. Emery is a wiz with cars.
So glad you are getting you hubby to go to church with you this weekend.
Keep us posted on his trip to church!!! So intresting that he needs to do this for school, what an opened door that is!
Blessings,

Make room in your budget for a AAA membership. Its probably around $100/year...but pays itself back when you need a tow or lock your keys inside or any number of things they cover. Very very worth it!
Oh those cars! They are so needed but can be such a pain!
Poor Robert! I have never had a new car... mine have always been older, but well maintained. I have never been stranded, praise the Lord, but I have been left without transportation many times while repairs were being made. It was not much fun! A hymn singing sounds like fun! At our last church, we had Last Sunday Night Singing. The last Sunday of the month the entire evening service was nothing but singing and special performances, followed by a potluck supper... super fun!

Thats wonderful that he is going to church with you. I will be praying.
Hi Dawn from Briana in Alaska I wanted to say that I am very sorry that your vehicle broke down. It is sad that nobody was willing to help a person in need.
