We have no drinking water. We have to drink bottled water here because our tap water is so polluted with chemicals, rust, minerals and were told when we moved in to not drink or cook with it unless we wanted to fall really ill. No wonder my skin and hair is the way it is. The hardness has destroyed it so bad. But anyway, "so why don't you go get some water?" Easier said then done. My husband was supposed to pick some up but his ride home didn't want to stop! It would have taken him 2-3 minutes to run in the store and run out! Ugh...
I had enough water to begin with today and thought I could stretch it till tomorrow but when I started cooking, it was obvious I didn't have enough left for drinking.
So, Robert came home late from work and he called 4-5 people asking them for a ride to our Shoppette to get water. Every one of them gave excuses! It's a 3 minute ride or 15-20 minute walk to the Shoppette. I mean, it wouldn't have taken very long at all.
So he went and asked a co worker in the next building...nothing!
He went to a soda machine that sells water...it's broken!
Our Shoppette on base closes at 7 p.m.!!!! I mean, come on!!! I guess they don't care that soldiers and their family members might actually need something, know what I mean?
Also, if you have been reading my blog, you would also remember I do not have a car still!
This is why we need our car fixed because we can't rely on anyone for anything here. It's so sad! But it goes to show you the true side of the military life.
I guess I can melt some ice cubes for tomorrow to have some water. I have to walk to the post office tomorrow so I can stop and get some water then.
Also, Robert had a ride to get our car fixed on Friday. Now his ride can't take him! This is insane!!! We just need our car! We have the parts now! But yet again, no one wants to help! It's unreal! He may have a co worker tomorrow...maybe take him over there for our car, but it all depends on how the day goes. I wouldn't count on it though.
It's frustrating when we are constantly getting knocked down from all points. It's been like that the moment we arrived in Germany! And we are tired of it!
Dixie was good all day today until Robert came home and then she started acting insane for the whole night! Ugh! I am going to go walk her tonight and let her run her energy out. Last night I walked her for an hour and she was beat when we came in...LOL.
I am going to see if another neighbor is home to see if she can spare 2 bottles of water for us...
*sigh* Anyway, besides this, today was a good day, it really was. :)
God Bless You!

That's exactly what it was like in Italy. We couldn't drink the tap water so we had to live off of bottled water. Ugh! In Alaska I didn't have a tap so I didn't have tap water hahahaha! GOD BLESS!

Why don't you buy a Big Berkey (google it). It is a couple of hundred dollars, but worth the investment and it works wonders.

Oh Dawn..what a hard day you had. That would be so hard to get used to..the water thing I mean. Makes me think I should be alot more thankful than I have been for good tap water here!!!
I hope tomorrow is an easier day for ya!!

That's so sad that your experience has been so horrible. When we lived overseas we felt that the comunity was stronger than state side. There was never a problem with getting help from neihbors, friends, or co-workers. Every base seems to be different though, and even every unit.

oh man! i will keep you in prayer- both for a ride on friday and for water!

I am so sorry to hear all the problems you have having. Ow, that's just a real inconvenience. I hope that you are able to get the car fixed and the water situation under control. You are in my prayers. God Bless!

So is this the water in Germany in general or just where you are living? If it is just the pipes can't the army fix the pipes? If you boil the water for three minutes won't it be ok? I am surprised that no one will come to your aid, I thought that since everyone is in the army people would look out for one another. It must be very difficult to keep up the requirement to drink two litres of water a day for health.

I'm so sorry to hear it is like that. Sad thing is. It's like that everywhere. Not just where you are.
Have you heard that old saying. Give an inch and they take a mile. That is what most people live by. So others that have been taken just don't want to help anymore.

It is sad. The few times I have ever had to ask for help. First words out are, I have cash and need a ride. Sad to say that has gotten me the rides I have needed. Most the time I end up paying more then I should have. But, my 'friends' think they were owed it.

This is what the world has turned into. It is real sad.

Hope things get better and you get you car soon.

Many Blessings

A Big Berkey? Hmmm...still have yet to Google it, but I will see what that is. :) We are only going to be in Germany for 10 more months, so, I don't know if I would want to invest in something I may not need in the States. :)

It's just the water in our town that is bad. I mean, I am sure the Germans probably drink it anyways, but I think I would rather save my body from the ill effects it may have....
Our water is kind of weird in color so even if I boiled it I don't think I could bring myself to drink it. I don't even like bathing in it...LOL.

I am sure on other Army and Air Force bases here in Germany, people may be more friendly and open to helping others, but not on our base.
I know if one of my neighbors around me needed something like a ride or some food or water, I would without hesitation help them the best I could, because that's the thing to do, know what I mean?

We are so looking forward to getting out of military life next year. My husband's unit is driving him batty and not helping him with things plus making him work late and he's frustrated that no one cares enough to help him out concerning the car and ugh...it's just insane!

Well I wasn't able to walk over to the post office / Shoppette today because psycho dog was going crazy again, but I did manage to go to our little gas station on base and get 4 bottles of water and a bag of ice and some soda. I would have gotten a case of water but they didn't have any.
Tomorrow though I will definitly have to go to the post office / bank / Shoppette so I will take care of things then.

I am so tired...just so tired...

God's Blessings to you my friends!

You will have a use for the Big Berkey wherever you go. I wouldn't drink tapwater anywhere. We use an electric distiller, but I would rather have the Berkey, because it doesn't use electricity. Maybe when our distiller dies... By the way, I lived in Germany for nine years: Geissen, Oberammergau, Grafenwohr. Where do you live?
:-D

We are stationed in Darmstadt...about 20 minutes from the Frankfurt airport. The base is closing as of next year...wooohoooooo! :)

I had no idea things are so bad with tap water in Germany. We have a filter for our water. Hope your car is fixed soon, it sure sounds as though you need it!

When we lived in an area that had really hard water with heavy iron (stained things orange!).....I would use jugs of distilled water to wash my hair with and it helped. Not sure if you are able to buy distilled water there but it will save your hair! Take care...

That's strange that the water in Darmstadt is so bad. Normally it's perfectly safe to drink tap water in Germany. I do it all the time :).
I hope you'll find someone to help you, esp. to pick up your car!
The Americans (well, actually everyone) at my church in Bonn are always really helpful. They'll be sad when the base in Darmstadt closes, b/c they shop there every now and then.
Hope today is a better day!
